1. Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple: Essential Rules & Timings
The epicenter of Trivandrum's spiritual life is the majestic Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, famed for its monumental 100-foot seven-tier gopuram and the deity resting in the eternal Anantha Sayana yogic slumber.
Strict Traditional Dress Code:
- Men: Must wear a traditional pure cotton or silk white Dhoti (Mundu) around the waist. Men must remain bare-chested inside the temple. Shirts, vests, pants, and jeans are strictly prohibited. Dhotis can be rented or purchased outside the temple gates.
- Women: Must wear a Saree, Half-saree (Pavada), or Dhoti wrap over long skirts. Churidar or Salwar Kameez is permitted only if accompanied by a traditional Mundu wrap tied over the lower waist. Modern Western trousers are strictly prohibited.
- Electronics: Mobile phones, smartwatches, cameras, and leather belts/wallets are strictly prohibited inside. Free and safe cloakrooms are available near the North and East entrances.
